// Get beach-ready with the new iPhone app from Men’s Health

15.06.11

Following our strategic consultancy engagement with The National Magazine Company (Hearst Corporation’s principal business in the UK), we’ve just launched an app for their Men’s Health magazine.

“Men’s Health Training Pro” is a workout tool designed to assist and inspire beginners, intermediates and full-blown gym bunnies alike.

The centrepiece of the app is a collection of 80 exercise videos, which are viewable in full landscape format. Included within the initial download, users get two bundles of videos for free. They can then buy further bundles via in-app purchasing.

The app allows you to build a workout routine from the videos you own, and then edit the reps, sets and weights for each exercise in order to create truly personalised training sessions. Additionally, you can record and track exercises completed in order to chart your progress over a nominated period of time.

“Men’s Health Training Pro” has proved to be an immediate success with massively positive user reviews, and secured a Top Ten position within its category upon release.

We think this is an excellent example of ‘thinking mobile’. The obvious solution would have been to create an app that simply replicated the magazine. Rather, we tried to find a way to make the most of the channel’s inherent benefits in order to create new utility and value.

So…if the prospect of having a personal trainer in your pocket appeals, why not give it a go before you head off on your holidays this summer ?
