Sponge appoints new CEO

Mobile marketing solutions provider Sponge has appointed Phil Trelease as CEO to oversee plans to expand the company's products and services in the coming months.

Trelease has been a non-executive director at Sponge for the past three years, having previously been Commercial Director of Carlton TV and CEO of TV production company Action Time. He succeeds current CEO and co-founder Alex Meisl, who will now become Chairman of the business. Co-founder Dan Parker becomes Creative Director.

"With revenue forecasts of over £6m this year and campaigns running across Europe, North America and Australia, we thought it was time to strengthen the management team with an experienced, top-notch Chief Executive" said Sponge Chairman Alex Meisl.

Sponge works with many leading agencies, media groups and network operators to create worldwide campaigns for clients such as Walkers, Unilever and Coca-Cola. It also runs all mobile services for publishing giant Northern & Shell. Sponge currently has a staff of 20 working in technical, commercial and account management roles, and will be recruiting to look after the company's growing client base.

"Mobile is now seen as a key component of marketing campaigns by most major brands in the UK" said Phil Trelease, CEO of Sponge. "Sponge will be expanding its range of mobile solutions as well as extending its client reach. The company has seen significant growth in the last twelve months and will continue to build on its successful strategy both in the home market and internationally."

Trelease will also create a new management board at Sponge.

"We have built a great team at Sponge and the purpose of the management board is to allow that talent to have a real impact on how we run our business," added Trelease. "It will also allow Alex Meisl to concentrate on continued international expansion and Dan Parker to focus on the creative side of the business; particularly mobile internet."
